UNIBOA - MARYLAND CHAPTER, "AMOH BEDO" INAUGURATES NEW OFFICERS

Amoh Bedo's Officers being sworn-in by Hon. Alfred Dousuah, National President

The newly chartered Maryland chapter of UNIBOA, “Amoh Bedo” inducted its new corps of officers into office on at its first inaugural ceremony and ball on April 18, 2009 at a grand Ball. The Inaugural Ceremony and Ball were held at the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church Hall in Baltimore, Maryland.

The grandeur, the first of the chapter was well planned and executed as expected. The occasion brought together fellow Liberians and distinguished guests from far and near. The new administration of Mr. Emmanuel Garmonyou Smith was officially ushered in with the blessings of the Hon. Alfred M. Dousuah, National President of UNIBOA who administered the oath of office. The other officers installed were Ms. Roberta Clark, Vice President, Bobby Joe, Secretary General; I. Ezax Smith, Financial Secretary; Catherine Potter, Treasurer; and Photo Joe, Chaplain.

The Keynote Speaker for the occasion was Liberia’s Social Cultural Historian and expert Dr. Syrulwa Somah. The theme of Dr, Somah’s speech was “Loyal Opposition and Social Change in Liberia: A Historical Perspective”. Dr. Syrulwa Somah is an Associate Professor of Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health at NC A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is author of several books, including, The Historical Resettlement of Liberia and Its Environmental Impact, Christianity, Colonization and State of African Spirituality, and Nyanyan Gohn-Manan: History, Migration & Government of the Bassa (a book about traditional Bassa leadership and cultural norms published in 2003). Somah is also the Executive Director of the Liberian History, Education & Development, Inc. (LIHEDE), a nonprofit organization based in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The inaugural ceremony was climaxed by dinner and grand ball.
