In May, 2008, the United Bassa Organization in the United States (UNIBOA) donated a consignment of books and school materials to a school in Grand Bassa County. The books and educational materials were made possible by members of the South Jersey (Trenton) Chapter of UNIBOA under the stewardship of the chapter’s dynamic President, Madam Sayeh Ann Richardson. Madam Richardson made the donation during a recent visit to Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. UNIBOA 18th National Convention ends “A Call for Renewed Commitment to Solidarity and Progress”
The 18th National Convention of the United Bassa Organizations in the Americas (UNIBOA) was held at the Ramada Hotel & Grand Rios Indoor Water Park in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota from May 23 - 26, 2008. Guests of Honor in attendance at this year’s convention were the current Senior Senator of Grand Bassa County, the Hon. Gbehzohngar Finley and former President Pro-tempo of the Liberian Senate, the Hon. Thomas Jucuntee Woewiyu. The Hon.Woewiyu now lives in the United States.
Both dignitaries were given the opportunity to give remarks in which both called for unity among the citizens from the Bassa counties in the Diaspora. Senator Finley also briefed the delegates and other attendees about the various reconstruction projects and concessions that are coming to the county, which will create job opportunities for the citizens in both Grand Bassa County and Marshall, Margibi County. Bassa Unity Conference ends
The Bassa Unity Conference organized by Elder Onisemus G.S Gayemen which was convened in Newark, New Jersey on February 9, 2008 ended amicably with agreement amongst the elders that the key to the achievement of goals for developments in the Bassa counties of Liberia is UNITY between the various Bassa groups in the Diaspora.
Their vision is that one day we all will be placed underneath one umbrella as a stronger force to push the agenda that will help our people back home. Though, couple of the groups did not show up, but the Elders promised to continue praying for unity. This vision was echoed in the opening prayers by the Rev. Dr. Daniel Gueh, Pastor of the African United Methodist Church of Trenton, New Jersey.

UNIBOA discusses LAC Saga
Sunday, November 25, 2007 - The leadership of UNIBOA and its membership convinced an emergency teleconference to discuss and formulate strategy on how to address the LAC Saga that is escalating by the day in Grand Bassa County.
During the meeting, the members that had called in to the conference call understandably expressed their frustrations with emotions and their concern for their kinsmen that are directly affected by the situation unfolding in that area of Grand Bassa County.
There were many suggestions on how UNIBOA should address the situation and what action to take. Despite all the troubling releases in the press, the organization is being very careful in crafting its address and what action to take. UNIBOA takes the LAC issue very serious. What happens in that part of Grand Bassa County today should also be a national concern.

UNIBOA donates to Buchanan Sea Erosion Disaster Fund
Newark, New Jersey – October 3, 2007. UNIBOA, the United Bassa Organization in the United States has presented a purse of USD$3,000.00 to Superintendent Julia Duncan-Cassell of Grand Bassa County as the organization’s donation to its sea erosion disaster fund.
Making the presentation to the Superintendent recently through money transfer and a phone call to the Superintendent, the President of UNIBOA, Mr. Alfred Dousuah emphasized that the money is intended to assist those citizens in Lower Buchanan, especially in Barlewreh Town and other areas who were affected by the erosion that engulfed the area in August, 2007 where homes were washed away leaving residents of the town homeless.
The Superintendent said the money was a great gesture from UNIBOA, the Bassa organization in the United States of America, and said the money will be used for its intended purpose. She hopes other humanitarian groups in Grand Bassa County will donate to this cause. She extends her thanks and appreciation to the members of UNIBOA.
The President of UNIBOA, Mr. Alfred Dousuah also expressed thanks and appreciation to Rep. Gabriel Buchanan Smith of Grand Bassa County and those who have come to the aid of the erosion victims and had made donations.

Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island has re-introduced S. 656.
The Senate bill which is intended to provide permanent residency to Liberians was introduced by the Rhode Island Senator, a staunch "friend" of Liberians on Thursday, February 15, 2007.
According to Ms. Liz King, Senator Reed's Ligislative Assistent, the Seantor is also working with the Immigration subcommittee on the Judiciary Committee to ensure that permanent residency for Liberians is included in the Comprehensive Immigration bill that will likely be considered by the Senate in the next few months. Ms King said "between this bill and S. 656, Senator Reed will do all that is possible to address the Liberians situation since TPS will be terminated this fall."
Mr. Mohamedu F. Jones, one of the Liberian liaisons with Senator Reed's office is calling on Liberians to contact their senators to tell them to cosponsor S. 656. Mr. Jones also indicated that it is anticipated that Rep. Senator Patrick Kennedy, also of Rhode Island, will introduce a campanion bill in the House of Representatives.

Rivercess County wins County Meet Soccer Title
River Cess County today defeated Grand Gedeh County 2-0 in the finals of a round-ribbon match to clinch the 2006-2007 National County Meet title in soccer.
River Cess, Grand Gedeh, and Bomi Counties, the three finalists in this year's county meet, played in a round-ribbon match-up to determine the winner. River Cess whipped Bomi County 2-0 earlier, while Grand Gedeh and Bomi drew their match 1-1.
By defeating Grand Gedeh 2-0 today, River Cess became the clear winner of the tournament with 4 points and 4 goals.
Meanwhile, the River Cess County Kickball Team whipped Sinoe County today to win the 2006-2007 National County Meet in kickball.
Reports from Monvovia say River Cess citizens have been rejoicing in the streets all day after lifting the 2006-2007 National County Meet Trophies in Football (Soccer) and Kickball.
River Cess citizens in the U.S. are happy about the success of the county in this year's National County Meet and wish to congratulate Superintendent Francis Paye, the River Cess Legislative Caucus, and the River Cess Kickball and Football Teams for their much deserved victories.
Uniboa holds its Annual Regional Christmas Party
UNIBOA recently held its second Annual Regional Christmas Party and National Capital Fund Raising Drive where a number of its local chapter heads were awarded with certificates of outstanding leadership.
UNIBOA President, Mr. Joseph D. Sinyan launched the “Annual Regional Christmas party and National Capital Fund Raising Drive” last year in an effort to jump start the Organization’s fund raising activities for its many projects in Liberia.
This year’s event was hosted by the South Jersey Chapter of UNIBOA, on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the Trinity Cathedral Auditorium, 801 West State Street, Trenton, New Jersey was the second in a series of regional Christmas parties mainly within UNIBOA’s Eastern region Chapters of New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Proceeds from this occassion was earmarked for the National Capital Fund Drive effort.
This year's party was in three folds; early in the morning, Uniboa's National Leadership Workshop and later in the afternoon Uniboa's Executive meeting was held. Presenters at the Leadership Workshop were the Honorable Joseph M. N. The President, in his Christmas Message emphasized the neglect of our children and the lack of access to education in Liberia due to the prolong civil unrest that devastated the country. He also spoke of sharing, giving, and the teaching of Jesus Christ.

Bassa Citizens Meet To Plan For County Meet

Citizens of Grand Bassa County are scheduled to meet to discuss the county’s participation in this year’s national county meet. A statement issued by the mobilization committee said the meeting would discuss financial and material support to the team.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on Sunday at the mason center on the old road.
Grand Bassa County is expected to play host to Rivercess in the opening match of the competition.
The Bassa citizens want to rally support so that they can finish as winners of the competition.
In a related development, the head coach of the Grand Kru County football team said players have boycotted training.
Coach Robert Lartey said the players’ action was due to the lack of support.
The coach claimed players were not given transportation whenever they go to practice.
Coach Lartey wants stakeholders of the county to rally and give the team all the financial and moral support they need.

Grand Bassa County Superintendent attends UNIBOA's 16th National Convention
UNIBOA's 16th National Convention was held in Arlington, Texas over the Memorial Day Weekend. Special Guest at this year's convention was the Superintendent of Grand Bassa County, Hon. Julia Duncan-Cassell who is on a private visit to the United States.
Hon. Duncan-Cassell received a thunderous applaud and standing ovation when she was introduced by Mr. Jerome Gayman, a former classmate from Bassa High School in Lower Buchanan. After she was introduced, the Superintendent did not hesitate to thank her Kinsmen and women for the wonderful efforts they are making in helping their people in the Bassa Counties.
In her brief remarks to the audience, the Superintendent eloquently gave a brief state of progress been made in the county and a call to UNIBOA to be a participant in the reconstruction of the county. She also answered many questions concerning issues in the county, such as the land issue between LAC and the people in its vicinity and the erosion that is eating away land and properties in the historic port city of Buchanan.

Mr. Sinyan Left the U.S. on March 28, 2006 for his first return to his native Liberia after been away for many years.
