Lower Buchanan, Grand Bassa County: District # 4 Representative, the Honorable Gabriel Smith is on the move to give less unfortunate students the opportunatives to benefit from his intiative of establishing a scholarship fund drive that will help them to achieve better education.

It appears that the days of tyranny and imperial presidency is dramatically becoming history in post conflict Liberia.

Over a hundred students are expected to benefit from the Gabriel B. Smith’s (Electoral District #4) scholarship program in Bassa.

Beneficiaries are drawn from Elementary to College level; the students are of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions of learning with an objective of contributing back to their native land someday. The objective of the program is to train young men and women who will in turn serve their County and Nation.

At a program held recently to raise funds for the students, Rep. Dr. kettetehkumeh Murray craved the students’ indulgence to be studious and make good representation of their county.

He asked Bassonians to be supportive of the lawmaker’s efforts as he’s in the pursuit of delivering youth of the county and Liberia from the ashes of poverty and illiteracy.

House Speaker, Hon. Alex Tyler, also speaking at the program praised the legislative skills of Hon. Smith as he, along with his Colleagues championed the struggle for a Bassa Community College charter in 2008.

The earlier launch of similar program saw over a hundred students on scholarship and the number is expected to increase per recent collection and donations.

Over a thousand Bassonians attended the function with scores of them putting in their widow’s mite in support of the representative’s effort.

In a brief remark, Rep. Gabriel B. Smith urged Bassonians to be steadfast in supporting their leaders which would serve as a motivation. He praised the turn out and encouraged students to remain studious and discipline in their academic sojourn.
