WELCOME REMARKS OF HOST CHAPTER's PRESIDENT
Delivered at the
18th National Convention - 2008

Mr. Solomon Reeves, President of Bassa Dorkpah

My fellow Liberians, Well Wishers, Friends and Foes. As we’ve assembled here in the City of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, to once again commemorate the historic event marking our 18th years of existence, permit me to thank our Lord for his grace toward us as a people and as an organization. Also, on behalf my family, I’ll like to register our deep gratitude and appreciation to you for your unflinching and overwhelming support accorded this Administration since our inception in August, 2007. Not only do we want to be grateful to you, but also to extend our profound thanks to the various committee that have worked so tirelessly to ensuring the success of this convention.

Under the same breath, however, we would like to seize this moment to welcome to the Twin Cities the National President and the National Board of Directors Chairperson, Mr. Alfred Dousuah and Madam Mydea Reeves-Karpeh respectively, alongside all those delegates who will be attending this year’s convention from all over the United States. It is my hope, however, that as we go through these deliberations that would shift the course of our destiny in a more positive fashion during these few days, you will find Minnesota, the Mall of America and our 10 Thousand Lakes very rewarding.

As this Year Convention’s theme depicts, “Solidarity for Progress”, let us be reminded to keep focus on our ‘Purpose’, such as; to promote Peace, Unity, Progress and Social Awareness amongst the people of the Bassa Counties and all Liberians in the Americas, Maintain and Retain our Cultural and Traditional Heritage and Values, and to help with specific developmental projects such as Education and Health Care; amongst others. What is also significant to note, however, is that I pray that we will take advantage of this opportunity to mend fences where there have been broken boarders and harness our energies and resources towards positive ideals rather than destroying ourselves through divisive politic. Our Organization like any vibrant entity is prone to having problems, but the ability to look beyond these impediments and obstacles that tend to divide us as a people and as an organization is ultimately what counts at the end of the day. For a house divided against itself can not stand.

Indeed, If we are to be the bacon of Peace and Unity as enshrined in our constitution, and to serve as conduit of hope to the hopeless and inspiration to the needed, then it is my ardent prayers that those earlier crafters of Peace between the Grand Bassa County Association and UNIBOA would broaden the scope of participants from both sides to derive an amicable solution.

Once again, you are all welcome to Minnesota and Wish you a prosperous deliberation and a joyous Memorial Day.

Yours respectful,
Solomon Reeves
PRESIDENT
